Packaging Sleeve Printing Malaysia: How to Brand Boxes, Food Containers & Gift Packs
A printed sleeve can add product information and brand impact to an existing package without printing an entirely new box. Accurate measurement is the key.

What is a packaging sleeve?
A packaging sleeve is a printed paper band designed to wrap around a compatible box, tray or container. It can carry a logo, product name, flavour, campaign message, instructions or QR code while the underlying package provides the main structure.
Sleeves can suit retail boxes, gift packs, bakery boxes, takeaway containers, corporate gifts, hampers and seasonal launches. Browse the verified packaging printing range to compare sleeves with other packaging products.
Verified Image Magic sleeve specifications
The current Packaging Sleeve Printing page lists three standard flat sizes: 40 × 420mm, 60 × 420mm and 90 × 420mm. The standard product uses 128gsm art paper, full-colour single-sided printing, starts from 100 pieces per design and is supplied flat.
| Flat size | Planning use |
|---|---|
| 40 × 420mm | Narrow branding band for compatible compact packages. |
| 60 × 420mm | More vertical space for a logo, product name or message. |
| 90 × 420mm | Largest standard branding area among the current options. |
Measure the complete wrap
- Assemble the actual box or container that will be used.
- Measure around all faces crossed by the sleeve, not only the front panel.
- Allow an overlap where the sleeve ends meet.
- Mark the visible front, side, back and overlap zones.
- Make a plain-paper strip at the proposed dimensions.
- Wrap it around the package and test the fit before final artwork.
Allow for realistic packing tolerance. A sleeve that fits an empty prototype tightly may become difficult to apply after the box is filled. If the package dimensions or structure change, repeat the measurement.
Plan the artwork by panel
Front panel
Prioritise the brand, product name and the main buying message.
Side panels
Use for short benefits, flavour, variant, quantity or handling information.
Back panel
Place supporting copy, contact details or a QR code where it remains visible and scannable.
Overlap zone
Keep important text, logos and QR codes away from the join.
Prepare one continuous single-sided artwork using the correct 40, 60 or 90mm template. Add the required bleed and keep essential content within safe margins. Print and wrap an actual-size paper proof to confirm that panel transitions fall in the intended positions.
Boxes and retail products
A sleeve can help one standard box support different products, gift seasons or limited editions. This can simplify branding changes when the structural packaging remains the same. However, the sleeve should not hide essential instructions, barcodes or legal information already printed on the package unless those details are accurately repeated.
For e-commerce and courier use, consider how the sleeve will behave during packing and transport. It is a paper branding component rather than a substitute for protective shipping packaging.
Food-container considerations
A sleeve can be used around suitable takeaway or bakery containers as an outer branding element. The current standard product uses 128gsm art paper, but the public product information does not state that this paper is certified for direct food contact or greaseproof use.
Heat, condensation, oil and sauces can affect paper. Test the real packed product, including its temperature and holding time, before a large order.
Gift packs and corporate packaging
For gift boxes and hampers, use the sleeve to create a clear theme while leaving the underlying box reusable. A seasonal greeting, recipient name area or campaign message can be integrated into the design, subject to the confirmed print specification.
Match the sleeve width to the visual weight of the box. A narrow band leaves more of the base packaging visible; a wider sleeve offers more artwork space. Neither is automatically more premium—the fit, paper handling and design hierarchy matter more.
Supply, joining and assembly
The verified standard sleeve product is supplied flat. The box, tray, cup, container and displayed product are not included unless the order states otherwise. The public product information does not clearly confirm adhesive, tape, pre-gluing or pre-assembly, so do not assume these are included.
Decide who will form and join the sleeves, how they will be stored and how quickly packing staff can apply them. Confirm any required joining method before ordering.
Artwork checklist
- Use the exact template for the selected sleeve width.
- Confirm the full 420mm wrap length fits the actual package.
- Include sufficient overlap or joining area.
- Mark front, side, back and overlap zones.
- Keep essential content away from folds and the join.
- Add the required bleed and safe margins.
- Test barcodes and QR codes from an actual-size proof.
- Verify product names, variants, quantities and regulatory copy.
- Use CMYK artwork and suitable image resolution where required.
- Confirm the live product specification and production schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Does the order include the box?
No. The verified standard product is for the printed paper sleeve; the underlying box, tray, cup, container or product is not included unless specifically stated.
How do I know whether 420mm fits?
Measure the complete wrap around the real package, allow an overlap and test a plain-paper mock-up at the proposed dimensions.
Can the sleeve touch food directly?
The current 128gsm art-paper product is not stated to be certified for direct food contact. Keep it outside the food container unless a suitable material is separately confirmed.
Is the sleeve printed on both sides?
The current standard product lists full-colour single-sided printing. Do not assume double-sided printing or specialty finishing is included.
