Brown paper affects how printed colours appear. Choose the printing setup according to the required contrast and design.

Natural Kraft Effect Full Colour CMYK

Colour is printed directly onto the brown kraft surface. The paper colour will influence the finished appearance.

Brighter Colour Areas Full Colour + White Ink

White ink can be printed beneath selected CMYK elements to improve contrast and help colours appear brighter.

Minimalist Printing White Ink Only

Selected supplied text, logos or graphics are printed using white ink without a CMYK colour layer.

White ink is not automatically applied to every light-coloured object. Supply a separate white-ink mask showing the exact areas where white ink is required.

How Colours Appear on Brown Kraft

Brown Paper Affects CMYK Colours printed directly onto kraft may look darker, warmer or less bright than the same colours on white paper.
White Artwork Needs White Ink A white object in ordinary CMYK artwork does not print white. It normally becomes the natural brown paper colour.
Light Colours Need Planning Pale colours, pastel colours and low-contrast details may be difficult to see without a white underbase.
Dark Artwork Gives Strong Contrast Black, dark brown and other strong colours generally remain easier to read directly on kraft.
Screen Colour Will Differ A white computer screen cannot accurately reproduce the appearance of CMYK printed onto brown paper.
Natural Surface Character The kraft colour and paper texture form part of the final visual appearance.

Uncoated Kraft Surface

Natural Unlaminated Feel The card retains its raw kraft appearance and surface texture.
Suitable for Writing The uncoated surface is generally suitable for handwriting with ordinary pens.
Suitable for Stamping Useful for loyalty cards, appointment cards and simple rubber-stamp applications.
Test Critical Pens or Stamps Drying and absorption can differ by ink type. Test the intended pen or stamp when performance is important.
Brown Kraft Card is uncoated paper. It should not be described as waterproof, stain-proof or wipe-clean.

This product is designed around its brown kraft appearance and optional white ink. Choose a white or FSC paper business-card product when accurate bright colours or certified paper specifications are the main requirement.

Artwork Preparation Guidelines

Submit final print-ready artwork matching the selected size, printing sides and printing method.

File Format and Colour
  • PDF is the preferred print-ready format.
  • AI files may also be submitted.
  • Prepare the main colour artwork in CMYK.
  • Use images of approximately 300 DPI at final size.
  • Convert fonts to outlines or embed them properly.
Size, Bleed and Safe Area
  • Artwork size must match the size selected during ordering.
  • Add 3mm bleed whenever artwork extends to the edge.
  • Extend backgrounds and images completely through the bleed.
  • Keep important text and logos at least 3–5mm inside the trimming edge.
  • Avoid narrow borders close to the card edge.
White Ink Mask File
  • Supply a separate white-ink mask whenever white ink is selected.
  • Use solid 100% black for every area receiving white ink.
  • Leave all non-white-ink areas white or blank.
  • The mask must use the same size and position as the main artwork.
  • Use vector artwork where possible for clean edges.
White Ink Mask Restrictions
  • Do not use grey or screened black.
  • Do not use gradients, shadows, blur, transparency or opacity effects.
  • Avoid extremely fine lines and very small text.
  • Check that every mask object aligns with the corresponding printed artwork.
Double-Sided White Ink Files
  • Supply front and back CMYK artwork for double-sided full-colour printing.
  • Supply a separate front white mask when white ink is required on the front.
  • Supply a separate back white mask when white ink is required on the back.
  • Clearly label files as Front, Back, Front White Mask and Back White Mask.

  • Place all related files into one ZIP when necessary.
Basic Artwork Check
  • Image Magic may perform a basic technical check for size, margins, colour and mask setup.
  • The check is not a design, retouching, layout or proofreading service.
  • Customers remain responsible for names, prices, telephone numbers, spelling and QR codes.
Artwork Submission Time
  • Upload complete artwork before 5:00 PM for the selected production schedule.
  • Late, incomplete or incorrect files may affect production and delivery timing.

Will white artwork print white?

What is a white-ink mask?
It is a separate artwork file showing where white ink must be printed. Solid black represents white-ink areas, while white or blank areas receive no white ink.
Can I write or stamp on the cards?
The uncoated surface is generally suitable for writing and stamping. Test the intended pen or stamp when drying time or smudge resistance is important.
Are custom sizes available?
Order only a size currently enabled in the product calculator. Do not assume that unrestricted custom sizes are included.
How long does production take?
Production follows the current option or confirmed schedule shown during ordering. Delivery or collection time is additional.
