Will a Magnetic Sign Work on My Vehicle?

Test the exact intended position before ordering. Not every vehicle body panel is magnetic.

Suitable Magnetic Steel Panel

The complete sign area must attract a magnet strongly enough for the sheet to make full contact.

Flat or Gentle Curve

Magnetic sheets perform best where the complete back surface lies flat against the vehicle.

Clean and Dry Surface

Both the vehicle panel and magnetic backing must be free from grit, dust, wax, oil and moisture.

Sound Vehicle Paint

Avoid rust, peeling clear coat, damaged paint or uncertain repaired areas.

Magnetic signs generally will not attach to aluminium, plastic, fibreglass, glass, carbon-fibre or other non-magnetic panels. Some modern vehicles also use different materials on different body panels.
Test the complete intended sign position using a clean magnet. Do not test only one small area and assume that the whole door or vehicle is magnetic.

How to Install the Magnetic Vehicle Sign

  1. Test the Panel Confirm the entire intended area is magnetic.
  2. Clean Both Surfaces Remove dust and moisture from the vehicle and magnet back.
  3. Position Carefully Place one edge first and lower the complete sign gradually.
  4. Check Full Contact Ensure every edge lies flat before driving.
Do not place the magnetic sign over strong body creases, door mouldings, handles, deep recesses, panel gaps, rivets, rust or damaged paint. Raised edges can allow wind, water and dirt underneath the magnet.
Lift the complete magnetic sign when repositioning it. Do not drag it across vehicle paint because trapped grit may scratch the surface.

Care, Washing and Storage

Remove Regularly Remove the magnet periodically to clean the panel, remove trapped dirt and allow moisture to dry.
Remove Before Car Wash Take the magnetic sign off before automatic vehicle washing.
Clean Both Sides Clean and dry the vehicle panel and magnetic backing separately before reinstalling.
Store Flat Keep the sign flat, clean and dry when it is not being used.
Do Not Fold Folding or tightly rolling the sheet may create curl and reduce full contact.
Inspect Before Driving Do not use a magnetic sign with curled edges, damage or inadequate attachment.
Removable does not mean zero risk to vehicle paint. Dirt, moisture, heat and poor maintenance may leave marks or scratches. Extra care is recommended for repainted, repaired or deteriorated vehicle surfaces.

Prepare artwork using the exact width and height selected during ordering.

File Format and Colour
  • PDF or AI is recommended for print-ready artwork.
  • High-resolution JPG may also be used where suitable.
  • Prepare colour artwork in CMYK.
  • Use approximately 150–300 DPI at the actual finished size.
  • Convert fonts to outlines or embed them correctly.
Actual Size
  • Prepare the artwork at the exact ordered width and height.
  • Use 1:1 scale rather than an approximate A-series sheet size.
  • Measure the actual usable flat area on the intended vehicle before designing.
Bleed and Safe Area
  • Follow the bleed measurement shown in the current product artwork template.
  • Extend background colours and images completely through the required bleed.
  • Keep important text, logos and contact details well inside the finished edge.
  • Avoid thin borders positioned close to the outer cutting edge.
Artwork for Moving Vehicles
  • Use large, readable typography.
  • Use strong contrast between text and background.
  • Keep the business name prominent.
  • Limit the amount of small supporting text.
  • Test QR codes from the final exported artwork.

Will it stick to every car?
No. Magnetic signs require a compatible magnetic steel body panel. Aluminium, plastic, fibreglass, glass and other non-magnetic surfaces are unsuitable.
What sizes are available?
The current calculator allows custom width and height in millimetres. Measure the actual usable vehicle panel before ordering.
Can it be used on a curved car door?
A gentle curve may be suitable when the entire magnetic sheet remains in full contact. Strong curves, body lines, recesses and mouldings are unsuitable.
Can magnetic vehicle signs be reused?
Yes, when the magnetic sheet remains clean, flat, undamaged and compatible with the next vehicle panel.
Can the magnet damage car paint?
Magnetic signs do not use adhesive, but dirt, moisture or grit trapped underneath can mark or scratch vehicle paint. Regular removal and cleaning are important.
Should I remove it before washing the car?
